MATRIX: Boxing personnel in awe of the genius that is Vasyl Lomachenko

Vasyl Lomachenko proved exactly why he’s been the number one fighter in the world for some time now with a destructive victory over Anthony Crolla.

Taking apart a former world champion in Crolla, effectively without being troubled at all, was yet another indication of Lomachenko’s apparent invincibility.

Predictably, the boxing fraternity took to social media in order to share their wonderment.

Sky Sports’ Ed Robinson led the tributes to a truly remarkable champion.

“If you’ve ever put on boxing gloves or watched enough, then you probably understand the mechanics and logic of what decent fighters do. But what Loma can see and how he reacts is some truly incomprehensible, higher level genius.”

Fellow Top Rank stablemate Michael Conlan said: “Loma has completed boxing. I just want to see him versus Mikey Garcia now.

“He will 100% go down as one of the best to ever do it. His boxing IQ and ring generalship has to be the highest and most complete ever seen. the only way I can see him losing is if he goes to 140.”

UK Boxing journo Gareth A. Davies witnessed the knockout from just feet away.

“Anthony Crolla knocked out in front of me here by Lomachenko 58 seconds into round four. It was desperately one-sided with the Ukrianian master fighter stalking the Mancunian hero.

“Crolla just not able to match Loma which brought an ugly finish Loma wants Mikey Garcia. So do we.”

Carl Frampton went one further by labelling Lomachenko his best of all time.

“When people get asked who their favourite fighter of all time is? You hear the usual names. Ali, Tyson, Leonard, Hagler, Duran, Chavez etc.

“Are we allowed to say Lomachenko yet? Cause I think he’s mine,” said the Belfast man.

NEXT MOVE

So what’s next for Lomacheko?

Well, it looks like a September return is already in the pipeline on ESPN. Whether that’s a Pay-Per-View battle with Mikey Garcia is simply down to reaching an agreement on both sides to take the Lomachenko date.

Lomachenko is the A side after Garcia suffered a recent loss at 147. Mikey will potentially have to take the fight on Top Rank’s terms unless a negotiation compromise can be found.
