Joyce v Dubois delayed, Cheeseman v Fitzgerald, Walsh v Gill update

The latest British Boxing Board of Control Bulletin offered an update on a potential Heavyweight title clash between Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois.

Following Hughie Fury’s decision to vacate the top division Lonsdale Belt, Joyce and Dubois were put forward by the BBBofC.

A purse bid was initially called for April 10th. Both promoters, Frank Warren (Dubois) and Richard Schaefer (Joyce) have now asked for an extension.

HEAVYWEIGHT (Vacant)

JOE JOYCE V DANIEL DUBOIS. – Following a request from both parties to postpone the Purse bid. The Stewards decided to put out the above contest to purse bids. In short terms to be submitted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions to the Board’s Head Office by 12:00noon on Wednesday, 24th April 2019. The contest to take place by the end of August 2019.
This contest is also for Joe Joyce’s Heavyweight Commonwealth Boxing Council Championship.

At super-welterweight, and on the back of a career-best win over Anthony Fowler,  Scott Fitzgerland replaced the Liverpool man as the mandatory for Ted Cheeseman.

A purse bid has now been confirmed by the Board.

SUPER WELTERWEIGHT

TED CHEESEMAN (Holder) v SCOTT FITZGERALD. – Following a request from both parties to postpone the Purse bid for one month. The Stewards decided to put out the above contest to purse bid. To be submitted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions to the Board’s Head Office by 12:00noon on Wednesday, 8th May 2019. The contest to take place by the end of August 2019.

The situation at welterweight has been determined with Chris Jenkins set to battle Liam Taylor.

WELTERWEIGHT

CHRIS JENKINS (Holder) v LIAM TAYLOR. – The above mandatory defence contest to be promoted by Frank Warren. It will take place on a date and at a venue as yet to be advised.

130 pounds sees Sam Bowen put forward to defend his title against Anthony Cacace. At Featherweight, Ryan Walsh and Jordan Gill are expected to collide.

Both purse bids were set for May 8th. The fight should be held by the end of the summer.

SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT

SAM BOWEN (Holder) v ANTHONY CACACE. – Following the withdrawal of Ronnie Clark due to injury. The Stewards decided to put out the above contest to purse bids. To be submitted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions to the Board’s Head Office by 12:00noon on Wednesday, 8th May 2019. The contest to take place by the end of August 2019.

FEATHERWEIGHT

RYAN WALSH (Holder) v JORDAN GILL. –  The Stewards decided to put out the above contest to purse bids. To be submitted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions to the Board’s Head Office by 12:00noon on Wednesday, 8th May 2019. The contest to take place by the end of August 2019.
