Floyd Mayweather says Sr. return talk was false, no Manny Pacquiao fight

Floyd Mayweather has moved to finally quash any notion of a return to boxing as rumors persist of a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

Despite signing Pacquiao to his own promotional label. Plus, having several impromptu public greetings photographed – and releasing training videos simultaneously, Mayweather has issued a statement confirming he’s still retired.

Mayweather recently spent time in the Philippines, Pacquiao’s home country, meaning media reports then hit fever pitch.

The ‘Money’ man is adamant no comeback is on the cards.

“As of right now, I’m not fighting (Pacquiao or) anyone. I’m currently retired,” told FightHype.com’s Ben Thompson.

Reacting to father and trainer Floyd Sr. stating his son would fight again, Mayweather moved to dismiss those quotes given to Helen Yee.

“People said that my dad talked about me fighting again. All the information that my dad gave was false,” he pointed out.

“At the end of the day, if you hear anything, it’s not true. Like I told you the other day, if they didn’t hear it on FightHype or they didn’t see it on my social media page, it’s not true!”

Senior had told Yee of lvsportsnetwork.com: “Right now I have to say myself that Floyd’s still got the fire in him.

“I’m not just saying it because it’s the way it is. When a person says he’s retired, he’s retired. But it seems right now to me that he’s doing that (supposed to be fighting) pretty much every month.

“I don’t know whether he be doing it (training) sometimes. I know one thing, he’s going to get back in the gym and terrorize some things.

“But I’m just saying that. I’m not saying that because of what I believe. I’m saying that because it’s going to happen, for real. I think he’s going to return when the right man gets in his face.

PACQUIAO

“Pacquiao was mouthing off so he can get it again too. I heard they were speaking about fighting again. But I don’t know what the talks at the fights were (really) about,” he concluded.

History tells us Mayweather could still be planning something big, although the five-weight champ is running out of time for a Pacquiao return.

The TMT boss denied Conor McGregor cross-code battle reports right up until they announced the fight back in 2017.

But Pacquiao will have to set the wheels in motion for his next move imminently. Talk of a fight with Keith Thurman has been at the forefront.

There’s also Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter to consider for what is expected to be a July return for the Filipino Senator.

Upon returning from his trip to Asia, Mayweather announced a new venture into fitness.

The American will open a series of gyms in the near future, details of which were released on social media.
