Scott Fitzgerald forced to strip and re-scale for Anthony Fowler clash

Scott Fitzgerald came in overweight for his forthcoming clash with Anthony Fowler after scaling just over eleven stone.

The British super-welterweight, who faces Fowler in a clash of two undefeated prospects, was six ounces over the limit.

Preston-born Fitzgerald had been baited by Fowler at the pre-fight press conference regarding his weight. This prompted ‘Fitzy’ to post a social media video of himself being in top shape.

The former amateur star stated he was in the best shape possible to tackle Fowler. Also that he had no problems whatsoever making 154.

Not so on the scales as Fitzgerald was ordered to go away and lose the excess poundage following a barrage from Fowler at the head-to-head.

There are no dangers the contest won’t go ahead at the M & S Bank Arena in Liverpool on Saturday night. The pair seemingly cannot wait to get their hands on each other.

Fowler and Fitzgerald have been the talk of UK Twitter accounts for some time now as they constantly gave each other both barrels.

An exciting encounter is in store as an integral part of the undercard seeing Liam Smith make a homecoming against Sam Eggington.

If you judge the furore surrounding Fowler and Fitzgerald throughout fight week. Promoter Eddie Hearn may have missed a trick in not naming the Docklands battle as main event.

All eyes will be on the two British champions in the making. A shot at Ted Cheeseman could well be on the horizon.

For his part, Fowler had no problems hitting under the 154 pound mark.

Fitzgerald came in bang on the super-welterweight limit a short time later.
