Sam Bowen v Jordan McCorry: Undercard results from Leicester

World Boxing News 23/03/2019

Light-heavyweight Tommy Fury recorded the second win of his early ring stint with a first round stoppage of Callum Ide. Without out win in 28 bouts, Ide was no match for Tyson Fury’s younger brother.

Fury dropped Ide twice before finishing off his foe midway through the opening stanza.

Training with Ricky Hatton is clearly benefitting Fury, who looked more assured than for his tentative debut back in December.

Nathan Gorman eased to victory against gimme opponent Kevin Johnson, attempting for ten rounds to stop the stubborn American veteran.

It was shades of Gorman rival Daniel Dubois as both failed to stop the man who refuses to lose via stoppage.

Only Anthony Joshua and Peter Milas have managed to take Johnson out during his 48-bout career.

Gorman moves on to a potential British title shot against Dubois later in the year.

Dubois and Joe Joyce have been put forward to fight for the vacant Lonsdale Belt, with the latter expected to turn down the clash in favour of a world title run.

At super lightweight, Sam Maxwell took out Sabri Sediri in the final few seconds of a ten rounder to claim the vacant WBO European title.

Maxwell picked himself up from knockdowns in the first and second to drop Sediri late on and force the stoppage.

It was an astonishing ending as Sediri was on his way to a scorecard win and was taunting Maxwell when caught flush with just 15 seconds to go.

WOODSTOCK

Super featherweight Leon Woodstock warmed up for tougher tests with an eight round decision win over Sergio Gonzalez. Dropping his opponent in the eighth round, Woodstock got back on track in moving to 12-1.

Troy Williamson scored a ninth career victory with a second round knockout of journeyman Kevin McCauley. Putting McCauley on the canvas twice, the middleweight got the job done in the same session.

Claiming the vacant Midlands super welterweight title CJ Challenger saw off Kyle Haywood on points. Challenger picked up a tenth triumph as he inflicted a first loss in nine on Haywood.

Further results saw super welterweight Callum Blockley move to 4-0 with a points win over Dale Arrowsmith. Whilst lightweight Mark Chamberlain is now 2-0 following a stoppage of Laszlo Szoke.

Also victorious was light heavyweight Ryan Hatton won notched a fifth pro win over Kiril Psonko.
