DAZN Chief coy on Deontay Wilder signing, wants Anthony Joshua fight

DAZN Executive Chairman John Skipper refused to rule out the signing of Deontay Wilder this week as the streaming service unveiled their latest big-money acquisition.

Ex-middleweight king Gennady Golovkin signed on the dotted line ahead of a massive trilogy fight with Canelo Alvarez in September.

Upon discusses ‘GGG’ joining DAZN, Skipper was asked for an update on the situation regarding Wilder. This follows rumors ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was the number one heavyweight target.

Wilder facing Anthony Joshua would be the biggest fight out there in the top division. Skipper, like all of us, hopes to see them trade blows soon.

“I will not characterize them all, or even confirm them,” said Skipper.

“We have discussions with people and until we announce I rarely comment on them until we announce. So I don’t have anything to announce so no comment.

“Other than we’re interested in having the best fights on DAZN. We will put the fights on that people want to see.

“It’s pretty clear that one fight people want to see is Joshua and Wilder,” he added.

Joshua v Wilder seems to be a massive priority for Skipper at this point in time as subscriptions are vital to DAZN moving forward.

Putting together a huge undisputed unification, with the potential for two or three fights, could secure DAZN a massive amount of new customers.

KLITSCHKO

In addition, former Joshua opponent Wladimir Klitschko is also reported to be in talks with DAZN.

The Ukrainian legend has been offered a three fight deal, which includes a rematch Anthony Joshua.

The pair met in 2017 in one of the best battles of the year at Wembley Stadium.

But should ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ and Wilder both seal a place on the DAZN roster, the prospect of the two meeting would also increase.

It’s exciting times for the middleweight and 200 pound plus divisions at the moment. With DAZN not resting on their laurels for a second.

More signings are expected in the coming weeks as DAZN builds a lasting brand that could eventually be the most eye-catching in the sport.
