IBF middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs believes his size will be a big problem for Canelo Alvarez when they collide in Las Vegas.
‘The Miracle Man’ also sees a close split decision loss to Gennady Golovkin as insignificant in the contest.
Golovkin scored a wafer-thin points win, whilst most thought the Kazakh puncher beat Canelo once and maybe even twice.
Canelo got the verdict, but Jacobs intends to prove everybody wrong on May 4.
“If you understand, boxing styles make fights. You can’t automatically think that because he defeated Golovkin, he’ll beat me,” said Jacobs.
“Physically I’m the bigger man. Golovkin was bigger than him and I’m bigger than Golovkin. Rocky was the biggest fighter that Canelo has faced, but he didn’t possess the skill set that I have. So, that’s the difference.”
On Oscar De La Hoya getting the deal done with fellow DAZN promoter Eddie Hearn, Jacobs added: “Much respect to Golden Boy and Canelo for accepting this fight.
“You’re a true champion and stepping in with another champion says a lot. I tip my hat off to you but I’m looking for a tremendous fight for the fans.
“Obviously my legacy is on the line. His legacy is already well-established so, for me, it’s about capturing all the titles and solidifying my legacy for my own right.”
Jacobs has overcome cancer in his lifetime, therefore nothing a boxer can throw ever phases him.
“I never ever had it easy. I always had the long road, had to jump over hurdle after hurdle after hurdle.
“When I step into the ring May 4th, that will be the last hurdle I ever have to step over because I will be declared the unified middleweight champion of the world.
“We have worked so hard for this moment,” he concluded.
TRILOGY
The Canelo v Jacobs unification sees the Mexican put his WBC and WBA belts on the line just five months after winning the 168 pound version.
A win for Jacobs would certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons but may not necessarily mean the American gets a Golovkin rematch himself.
‘GGG’ signed for DAZN this week and called on Canelo for a trilogy battle win or lose against Jacobs.
