Canelo Alvarez recently discussed his forthcoming unification fight as the WBC, WBA, Ring Magazine middleweight champion prepares to face IBF title-holder, Daniel Jacobs.

The fight goes down on Cinco De Mayo weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, live on streaming service DAZN.

Beginning with why he decided to face Jacobs, the experienced pound for pound fighter explained his reasons.

“I’ve always liked challenges, and this is not an exception. We know what Daniel Jacobs brings. His ability, his qualities, his talent. He knows how to move well in the ring,” said Canelo.

“We’ll do what we always do to prepare ourselves to the fullest and to give the fans a great fight. This is not going to be an exception and we’re going to come out with our hands raised.”

On how he plans to win, the Mexican superstar added: “We know his style is going to be very difficult, very complicated. But at this level, that’s what you have to face.

“We’re prepared, we’re going to train, and we’re going to work for whatever he’s going to bring.”

Concluding with his prediction, Canelo stated: “Anything can happen. We’ll go in there looking for the knockout but prepare for the 12 rounds, expecting the unexpected. We’re ready for it.”

REYNOSO

Trainer Eddy Reynoso also gave his thoughts in a stark message for Jacobs.

“After Canelo, the next best middleweight is Daniel Jacobs. And we know Jacobs brings, and how talented he is. We know all the qualities he has, and how tough the fight will be.

“But this year, this year we want to sweep the middleweight division. And sorry, Daniel Jacobs is in the way. He’s going to have to lose.

“We’re going to do what we always do: prepare strong, prepare properly, no shortcuts, and win this fight. 2019 – we’re sweeping the division.”

Father Chepo added: “On May 4th, we promise when you have two great fighters. It’s only right that you’re going to get a great fight.

“Saúl was born for these challenges, born for big challenges, and May 4th will not be an exception,” he said.
