WBO set five-day negotiation deadline for Billy Joe Saunders v Shefat Isufi

In a statement letter released on Monday, the World Boxing Organization have confirmed a deadline for Billy Joe Saunders to agree a deal with Shefat Isufi.

What appears to be a mere formality, Saunders and Isufi have to rubberstamp the fight by the end of the week.

Saunders’ promoter Frank Warren has already announced the encounter will take place on April 13th at Wembley.

Those details have to now be clarified by the WBO.

The paperwork sent to both teams reads as follows:

From: Luis Batista Salas, Esq.
Chairman WBO Championship Committee

Re: Vacant WBO Super Middleweight Championship Contest Negotiations Shefat Isufi vs. Billy Joe Saunders

Please be advised the parties have five (5) days upon receipt of this letter to negotiate and reach an agreement regarding the Vacant WBO Super Middleweight Championship Contest between Billy Joe Saunders vs. Shefat Isufi. If an accord is not reached within the time frame set forth herein, a Purse Bid will be ordered pursuant with our WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests.

The minimum acceptable bid for the WBO Super Middleweight Division is $300,000.00 (Three Hundred Thousand Dollars). Any of the parties herein may request purse bid procedures at any time during the negotiation process.

Yours truly,
Luis Batista Salas, Esq.
Cc: Francisco Valcárcel, Esq. (WBO President)

On the back of a reign at middleweight, Saunders bids to become a two-weight world champion.

Isufi is currently rated number one and gets his chance after the now ex-ruler Gilberto Ramirez moved up in weight.

All that’s left is for Warren and Racz to notify the WBO of the agreeement in order to avoid any other parties being able to bid for the rights under purse bid terms.

Full details of the Saunders v Isufi event are set to be outlined in the coming days.
