On the latest episode of Sweet Scientists: Ak & Barak, former three-time world champion Juan ‘Baby Bull’ Diaz hosts Ak & Barak at his gym in Houston to chat about his amateur boxing days, his decision to retire and much more.
While in Houston, the guys linked up with NBA Finals champion Kendrick Perkins and got his prediction for the Canelo vs. Jacobs fight and personal pound-for-pound rankings. The full episode of Sweet Scientists: Ak & Barak and more Ak & Barak bonus content is available now, exclusively on DAZN.
“The biggest fight of my career was against (Juan Manuel) Marquez, it was a career-defining fight,” said Diaz when asked about the biggest moment during his career. “He (Marquez) went on to fight Floyd Mayweather, I went on to fight Paulie Malignaggi down here at the Toyota Center. But my name and notoriety started when I was an amateur. In the amateurs I fought Timothy Bradley and I fought Andre Berto. I beat both of them.’”
Ak & Barak asked Diaz if there were fights that he wanted but never got: “When I was a three-time world champion and undefeated, I called out Manny Pacquiao because he had moved up. Instead of fighting me, he fought David Diaz, and I wanted to fight David Diaz cause I wanted to be undisputed, and that fight never happened.”
When Ak & Barak caught up with former NBA player Kendrick Perkins in Houston, they asked him to predict the winner of the upcoming mega fight between Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs on May 4 at T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas, and exclusively on DAZN.
“I’m putting my house on Canelo.” Perkins claimed confidently. When asked for his pound-for-pound list, Perkins told Ak & Barak his top three: “I got Errol Spence, Terence Crawford, and Mikey Garcia.”
