Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury saga could last until 2020, span four fights

Deontay Wilder’s admission he could be out of commission for Anthony Joshua until 2020 obviously hasn’t gone down well in the UK.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has been critical of Wilder and his team for lack of contact of late. Hearn is hopeful WBC ruler Wilder can give Joshua an undisputed chance.

But recent relations on both sides have been damaged.

Wilder was forced to turn to Tyson Fury after Hearn and Joshua moved the goalposts during summer 2018 negotiations. Choosing Fury has since proved to be a masterstroke by Wilder as the pair enhanced their reputations in an epic battle on December 1.

Since then, Joshua has struggled and will continue to struggle for credible opponents.

The top division consists of just three huge names, meaning somebody has to miss out. Sadly for Joshua, he’s the one in the dark.

Making an appearance on ESPN and in exchange with Stephen A. Smith, Wilder warned Joshua he could be busy until late 2020.

A rematch with Fury is slated for April or May, with a third fight on the cards for the UK a few months later – dependent on the result.

Fury taking Wilder’s WBC strap would leave to a home defense of the title against Wilder. Should Wilder gain revenge, the score would be 1-1-1 between the pair. Furthermore, a fourth fight would then be needed in 2020.

Before that, Wilder would have to take care of mandatory duties against Dominic Breazeale. Something which could happen in early 2020 should the American remain undefeated until then.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ and Fury could end their saga with a massive fourth battle before freeing the World Boxing Council belt holder up for Josuha at the back end of 2020.

This scenario only happens if Wilder and Fury (???? Esther Lin) fight three times in 2020, meaning Joshua may even be left in the lurch until 2021.

‘AJ’ can select opponents from a pool of Jarrell Miller, Dillian Whyte, Kubrat Pulev, Luis Ortiz, and old foes Joseph Parker and Wladimir Klitschko until that time.
