British heavyweight Dillian Whyte has a blueprint for his return following the collapse of a fight with old rival Anthony Joshua.
Whyte has been promised a world title shot by Joshua on April 13 at Wembley Stadium. Once negotiations got underway, it was clear both sides were far apart in their respective estimations.
As ‘The Bodysnatcher’ readies himself to move on, Whyte revealed a solid date, venue, and three targets for a spring outing.
“You know, negotiations in business are tough. The fans don’t really see the ins and outs of that. We move on. Whyte told Sky Sports initially on his Joshua disappointment.
“I fight April 20 here (at The O2 Arena in London). Hopefully against Dominic Breazeale, Alexander Povetkin, Luis Ortiz, or one of those guys.
“Let’s see what Eddie can deliver in the next couple of days.”
Asked his preferred choice from the trio, Whyte added: “I would fight Dominic Breazeale because he is a big guy. He’s only lost once, and he is WBC’s mandatory challenger.
“Even though I’ve been number one for almost two years, he is number three and the mandatory – I don’t understand that. We want to get to the bottom of that situation once and for all.”
Breazeale may be a tough foe to nail down. As Whyte (???? Lawrence Lustig) stated, Breazeale, is slated to face the winner of Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury II.
Would the American be willing to risk that spot to face Whyte in the UK? – Unlikely, it may take a huge offer to tempt the former Joshua challenger.
ORTIZ
Povetkin has expressed some interest in the past. The Russian also revealed he intends to carry on despite retirement calls.
Finally, Ortiz would be the pick of the bunch for entertainment value. The fight would also generate interest stateside.
Whoever it is, Whyte needs to keep up his momentum as a world title shot looks further away than it has done for some time.
The 30 year-old had seemed a shoo-in to battle Joshua in the spring. However, the magnitude of the Wilder v Fury collision put pressure on Joshua to head across the pond himself.
Jarrell Miller is now set to be in the opposite corner to AJ for a June clash at Madison Square Garden.
