British star Chris Eubank Jr. has promised to end James DeGale’s career when the pair trade blows on February 23 for the vacant IBO title.
The 29 year-old is bidding to put himself back in the picture at the top of the 168 pound division by defeating a two-time world title holder in DeGale.
A rivalry has been brewing for some time. With the Brighton man adamant on ending their grudge at The O2 in London next month.
Eubank Jnr, the former IBO super-middleweight champion himself, said: “This fight has been four or five years in the making. It’s going to be a painful lesson for him.
“I’ve been training for years to beat him. I know everything about him. James talks retirement, but that has never even come into my mind.
“I hope he can bring the best he can bring on the night. We have to give the fans the most exciting and explosive fight that we possibly can.
“I just don’t think he has what it takes,” he added.
Should Eubank (📸 WBSS) come through DeGale, some huge match-ups could follow. A rematch with George Groves remains possible for either.
Eubank has extra incentive having lost to ‘The Saint’ just last February. DeGale also lost to Groves but by the tightest of margins back in 2011 and will be keen to ensure Groves avoids retirement in 2019.
Everything is set up for an exciting event for the UK fans. A contest which will determine how much DeGale has left. Or whether Eubank is able to cut it at the very top of the sport.
