New Zealand Boxer Reece Papuni (13 – 2 – 0) is set to make a massive comeback in 2019. His first bout will be on February 23rd in Motueka, New Zealand.
Former New Zealand National (NZNBF version) Light Heavyweight Champion, Reece Papuni has had an excellent boxing career, both as an amateur and a Professional.
As an amateur, he is a 4 time New Zealand Amateur Champion, Represented New Zealand at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, was awarded the 2010 Jamieson Title which is given to most scientific boxer and has competed at the World Boxing Series.
In his pro career not only has he won his New Zealand National title, but he has won the WBF Oceania title and won the Super 8 four man tournament. His biggest wins in his career is Knocking out Sam Rapira (8 – 0 – 0 at the time) for the New Zealand title and winning against Robert Berridge (26 – 3 – 1 at the time) at the Super 8 competition.
Now at the age of 31, Reece Papuni give his boxing career another chance to climb the ranks in hoping to be world champion one day.
But first he must get through his first challenge of the year. On 23rd of February, Reece Papuni will be taking on Esene Pono in a 88kg catchweight bout.
This will be Papuni first fight since September 2016 where he lost against Faris Chevalier for the Australasian title.
The undercard will also feature 4 debuting boxers in an epic Nelson vs Christchurch contests. John Pyers from Nelson will take on Levi Hallett from Christchurch and Ricky Esilva from Nelson will take on Geordie Bateman from Christchurch.
