Frank Warren believes the money-making aspect of Anthony Joshua will keep him away from a fight with Tyson Fury.
The Hall of Fame promoter sees Fury’s recent comeback and draw with Deontay Wilder as the catalyst to the former heavyweight king becoming the top name in UK boxing.
Joshua enjoyed a solid ascent to the pinnacle of the sport in Great Britain, but Warren says things have changed since the return of Fury back in June.
“He’s the people’s champion,” Warren told BBC Sport. “I think he’s now a bigger attraction than Anthony Joshua.
“There’s no corporate element with him. You don’t have to go through 100 people. You just pick the phone up. He walks down the street, and he hasn’t got an entourage of minders.”
On whether Joshua has a chance of defeating Fury if a fight could be made one day, Warren added: “I loved Joshua as an amateur. I really liked watching him. A young guy is exciting, and he seems to have reached a certain point in his career now where you can see the flaws.
“He’s vulnerable. He’s wobbled in most of his fights.
“Tyson only wants big fights. There are only two big fights out there – that’s Wilder, and that’s Joshua. Joshua doesn’t even want to fight him because I think he knows he’ll get beat,” he said.
Fury currently leads the WBN Fighter of the Year, voting for this year’s trophy, having enjoyed a stellar year.
The 30 year-old leads Oleksandr Usyk after the first few days, with voting set to end on January 18th.
