EXCLUSIVE: Nick Webb reflects on Dave Allen KO loss, open to future rematch

With time to look back on his British title eliminator fight with Allen, in which Webb was taken out with a hammer right hand when clearly ahead on points, the Surrey man reflected on how that final blow ending the contest.

“Yeah I’ve watched the fight over and over again and I keep thinking how did I get caught,” Webb exclusively told World Boxing News.

“I took a shot a bit earlier, the same shot and I felt that it didn’t hurt so I got a bit complacent with myself and dropped my hands a bit too much.

“I got too comfortable and I was winning the fight too easily and that was my mistake, it was my mistake I lost the fight.”

In the first ten round fight of his career, Webb had a short notice of two weeks to prepare and face Allen, who was only announced as his opponent days before the event took place.

Experience seemed to play a key factor in the fight as Allen has been inside the squared circle with the likes of Dillian Whyte, Luis Ortiz and Tony Yoka.

“I played into that he is a tough man and I thought I’ve never done ten rounds before so it was my inexperience and we obviously only had two weeks notice so my fitness wasn’t up to scratch.

“I felt like I wanted to take my time and not finish him in the first or second round – unless obviously, I needed to.

“It was the plan where I only had two weeks notice and didn’t have the gas tank I normally would have. I didn’t go in all guns blazing.”

Despite admitting he was taking it slow in the fight, Webb produced a very impressive jab which kept Allen at bay for most of the fight and shows with a proper camp there is promise for the future.

Allen has already shown interest in a rematch down the line which could take place in 2019, and when asked if a rematch is in his thoughts, Webb replied: “I would love a rematch, definitely a rematch in the future would be great. I would want a decent camp so I can come in on weight.

“There isn’t much that I would do differently, I would go in a bit more harder than I was and try not to get too complacent. It’s not like he was beating me up or anything, he just caught me with that shot,” he concluded.
