Commonwealth Games Silver medalist David “The Great White” Light will be taking on two time world champion challenger Mark “Bam Bam” Flanagan on May 18th, 2019.
Undefeated in his career, Light has had a busy 2018 with 11 wins with two titles. Already he has defeated the toughest opponents that New Zealand and Fiji had to offer, including NZ Heavyweight Champion Daniel Tai (23 – 11 – 4), former Australian champion Hunter Sam (11 – 11 – 2), Savenaca Naliva (9 – 1 – 1) and Asia Pacific Champion Lance Bryant (12 – 5 – 0).
After a major knockout win against Bryant on the Joseph Parker vs Alexander Flores undercard, Light announced that he will be taking on Mark Flanagan for the new vacant WBO Global Cruiserweight title.
“Bam Bam” Mark Flanagan (24 – 6 – 0) will be fighting in New Zealand for the first time, however he is no strange with fighting Kiwis. In his career he has defeated New Zealanders including Jason Costa, Daniel MacKinnon, Ofisa Vili, Eden McGrath, James Langton and Isileli Fa. He has fought a the world title twice in his career.
First against Denis Lebedev for the WBA Super World title in 2017. Second against Arsen Goulamirian for the Interim WBA World title in October this year.
The winner will not only break into the top 15 in the WBO, but also will hit the top 30 on boxrec. This will be a big leap in David Lights career and could get him into the world title picture within a couple of years. Light will be fighting a warm up fight before than on March 2nd against an opponent to be announced.
Light vs Flanagan will be held at ABA Stadium on May 18th, 2019. It is believed that the promoter is currently negotiating a tv deal for this event. The undercard will also feature the undefeated, entertaining Andrei Mikhailovich and the highly talented Mose Auimatagi Jnr.
Andrei “Renegade” Mikhailovich has also had a busy year this year, winning seven bouts this year, including defeating Jerome Pascua (5 – 2 – 0) in his second pro bout and Adrian Taihia (15 – 4 – 2) in his last bout on the Parker vs Flores undercard. Mikhailovich will also be featured on the March 2nd card but both cards still yet to announce an opponent.
Mose Auimatagi Jnr (11 – 1 – 2) is an amazing talent. In his career he has won two New Zealand Titles, UBF Asia Pacific title and a 4 man boxing tournament. He has defeated Gunnar Jackson (28 – 12 – 4), Reagan Dessaix (16 – 1 – 0), Adrian Taihia, Jordan Tai (10 – 4 – 0) and Morgan Jones (12 – 0 – 0). Auimatagi has been less active over last couple years, due to major injury issues with his hand and Matchmaking issues. His opponent is yet to be announced but hopefully this will get him on the right track for a major world title fight.
David Light (Pictured by Calden Jamieson) vs Mark Flanagan for the vacant WBO Global Crusierweight title will be held at ABA Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand. It will held on May 18th, 2019 and is promoted by Peach Boxing. This event will be Peach Boxing’s first event that won’t be having any corporate boxing on the undercard.
