Sam Maxwell aims to be pushing or honours in 2019

RINGSIDE 20/12/2018

Unbeaten super-lightweight Sam Maxwell has outlined some lofty ambitions as he prepares to close out 2018 on the Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton card.

The former Team GB star (9-0-KO7) has made eye-catching progress since turning professional and feels ready for the big domestic names of the 140lb-division.

Maxwell said: “I see myself ready to break into the top tier. I think there are a few names there that I feel more than ready to step in the ring with so I’m just waiting for my chance.

“I’d love to fight Akeem Ennis Brown for the IBF European super-lightweight title and I believe 100% I’d walk out of that the ring with that belt around my waist.

“I’ve had a great year boxing on these massive shows but next year I want the big fights – title fights. I’m ready. I’ve got a great set-up, a great team and I’ve got the talent. So it’s got to be my time now.

“I feel like I’ve been improving on everything with my coach Danny Vaughan. I feel like I am a better fighter all round now. A lot of people are saying they can see noticeable improvements, which is always good to hear.

“I’ve fought on some massive shows. This will be my third time on a Frampton show and it’s the biggest yet. I realise how luck my I am to get on these shows but next year I’m hoping to be further up the card in a big fight of my own.”

Also on a stellar card on Saturday night – live on BT Sport Box Office – is Liam Williams vs. Mark Heffron for the British middleweight title plus Billy Joe Saunders, Michael Conlan, Paddy Barnes, Troy Williamson and more.
