Sunny Edwards plotting steady course to the top

RINGSIDE 14/12/2018

WBO European super-flyweight champion Sunny Edwards has already begun thinking about world level – but admits he’s not ready for the flyweight giants yet.

The unbeaten ‘Showtime’ outpointed Ryan Farrag at York Hall to seize the belt last time out and will be looking to make another statement against the dangerous Junior Granados in Brentwood on Saturday.

With the flyweight division hotting up and his older brother Charlie bidding for the WBC title against Cristofer Rosales the following week, Sunny is determined to be clinical on his rise.

Sunny said: “The world champions at flyweight, you’ve got Artem Dalakian, who I’ve sparred numerous rounds with, Muruti Mthalane, who I spent two weeks with in Ukraine and Cristofer Rosales, who’s about to get dethroned by my brother.

“At the moment, I’m a little bit below that level and I need to gain more maturity and experience but within a few years, that’ll be where I’m heading.

“In a two-month period, me and my brother will have headlined BoxNation, been main support on BT Sport and been main support on Sky Sports Box Office. We’re in a very strong place.

“If both myself and Charlie get two good wins these next two weeks then who knows what the future could bring. It’s a very happy Edwards household at the moment – that’s for sure!”
