USYK VS. BELLEW – Results from Manchester Arena

Oleksandr Usyk proved his quality as the best cruiserweight in the world as the Ukrainian wore down a gracious Tony Bellew.

Despite keeping things tight on the scorecards, Bellew seemed to tire in the seventh and Usyk devastatingly took advantage in the next round.

A superb and hurtful combination put Bellew down and out for the count, but you could never fault the Liverpool man’s heart – as always.

In a WBA lightweight title eliminator, home favourite Anthony Crolla went blow-for-blow with tough Indonesian Daud Yordan.

A battle of former world champions predictability went to the scorecards, with Crolla getting the nod 116-112 on all three cards.

Ricky Burns put himself in contention for yet another world title shot with a third round stoppage of Scott Cardle.

Cardle now has a big decision to make regarding his future.

Heavyweight Dave Allen came through a brutal battle with Ariel Bracamonte through seven rounds.

Allen looked tired at times, but weathered the storm to stop the bloodied Argentinian after seven completed rounds.

Following Allen, Josh Kelly proved way too good for Walter Castillo. Kelly dropped and stopped his opponent in the first.

Richard Riakpohre stopped Sam Hyde late on after a grotesque swelling forced Joe Gallagher to throw in the towel.

Hyde may well have had a good shout to win, although his eye was awfully ballooned and the correct decision was made.

INFO

In one of the most exciting fights of the year, Tony Bellew puts it all on the line as he prepares to take on P4P and newly signed DAZN star Oleksandr Usyk at the Manchester Arena.

The latter’s profile has risen significantly since winning the WBSS season and unifying the cruiserweight division. In doing so, Usyk was the first boxer to hold the WBC, IBF, WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine world titles. Bellew returns to the 200lbs limit for the first time since defeating IIunga Makubu in his hometown at Goodison Park for the WBC World Cruiserweight Title.

Bellew will once again relish his role as the underdog and can rewrite history once again.

Also on the bill, Anthony Crolla faces Daud Yordan, whilst Ricky Burns battles ex-British title holder Scott Cardle and Dave Allen features.

Usyk v Bellew is live on DAZN in the USA and free for the first month.
