DAZN Fighter Profile: Oleksandr Usyk (Cruiserweight)

Fans are in for a real treat on November 10 as Oleksandr Usyk makes his debut on DAZN.

The current undisputed cruiserweight king is fresh from a dominating win in the World Boxing Super Series over unified champion Murat Gassiev and has the world at his feet.

At 31 and with a stunning 15-0 run in the pro ranks on the back of Olympic gold, Usyk is correctly regarded as one of the Top Five fighters on the planet.

Usyk turned pro in 2013 following his impressive triumph at London 2012 and quickly installed himself as a contender.

Making it to 5-0 in less than a year, a WBO Continental belt was soon acquired, along with the world rating Usyk needed to secure his dream.

Defeating contenders Johnny Muller and Pedro Rodriguez via stoppage proved Usyk was serious in his quest to become a world champion within 10 pro contests. Something he achieved in September 2016 against Krzysztof Glowacki.

By now Usyk had the full attention and respect of the division. And after two successful defences, was head-hunted by Comosa AG for a place in the inaugural World Boxing Super Series tournament.

Former world title holders Marco Huck and Mairis Briedis were dispatched in the early stages before Gassiev was bamboozled for twelve rounds as Usyk claimed the Ali Trophy.

Now, Usyk faces ex-WBC ruler Tony Bellew and begins a huge favorite to retain his clutch of straps, which include The Ring Magazine belt.

Looking forward to further cementing his legacy, Usyk is delighted to be showcased in such a huge event on DAZN.

“I’m sure it won’t be an easy fight for me. I am really glad to come back to England, the country which gave me a chance to get some trophies already, that mean a lot in my life,” said Usyk.

“I am not thinking about Tony Bellew at this moment. I’m just concentrating on my training camp and thinking about how I will overcome all of the challenges ahead of me before the fight.

“I’m not a monster, I’m a white rabbit. I picked Tony Bellew because he is the man that takes the biggest challenges. He is not the usual type of fighter that will come, see how hard it is and quit.

“He will come to fight until the end. These are the kind of fights that the World wants to see.”
