Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez put pen to paper last night on a mammoth deal with global streaming service DAZN.
The current middleweight king and future super-middleweight title challenger could earn up to and above $500 million over five years.
Under the terms of the contract, signed by Canelo and Oscar De La Hoya on Tuesday evening in New York, the 28 year-old will earn a minimum of $365m over ten fights.
Canelo then has the opportunity to earn more dependent on the opponent and circumstances of those events.
It could net the two-weight world champion some eye-popping checks over the next half a decade.
The Golden Boy star was in the Big Apple to promote his forthcoming clash on December 15 with Rocky Fielding. The contest will be Canelo’s first appearance on the new platform.
DAZN have changed the face of boxing since signing a multi-year deal with Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn. Golden Boy will now join the party.
Agreeing to stage at least ten shows on DAZN as part of the agreement, subscribers will be able to enjoy a mass of live boxing.
Matchroom are already joined by the World Boxing Super Series and Golden Boy’s involvement has now upped the ante.
HBO revealed their decision to focus on non-boxing programming in 2019, leaving Canelo with a big decision to make.
As Pay-Per-View readies to hit the shelves for the immediate future in the United States, Canelo and Anthony Joshua will spearhead DAZN’s push for sporting domination.
