EXCLUSIVE: Amir Khan gives verdict on Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky

Amir Khan says former opponent Canelo Alvarez is untouchable ahead of a fight with stablemate Rocky Fielding.

The former super-lightweight king, who spent five rounds gaining the upper hand against Canelo in 2016 before being taken out in the sixth, knows first-hand what awaits Fielding on December 15 in New York.

Canelo steps up to super-middleweight for the first time in his career but still begins favorite to dethrone Fielding in the first defense of his WBA ‘regular’ title.

Now rated number two in the pound for pound rankings following his win over Gennady Golovkin, Canelo aims to cement his legacy with another weight class championship.

Winning the super-welterweight crown against Matthew Hatton, Canelo went on to add the 160-pound crown against Miguel Cotto.

As Fielding bids to avoid a second career defeat, Khan says the outcome could already be inevitable.

“Looking at Canelo vs. Rocky, I think Canelo is just a beast. He’s a great fighter,” Khan exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Boxing-wise and power-wise, I think he’s an awesome fighter. I don’t think anyone out there will touch him.

“I don’t think Rocky will out-box him. He won’t out-box him or out-power him, so I don’t see Rocky winning that fight at 168.”

PACMAN

Khan is holding out for a crack at one of the welterweight big boys on his own next move. Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather are the initial targets, whilst UK rival Kell Brook is also in the picture.

“It’s only been four weeks since my last fight, so I’m having a break now,” he said. “But I don’t want to be messed around by Pacquiao or whoever is talking to him.

“If Pacquiao wants it, I want to put this out there – ‘I’m ready – and I want to fight you!’ Financially it will make big money,” Khan added.
