Rocky Fielding is set to defend his newly-acquired WBA super-middleweight title for the first time in December.
The Liverpool man ripped the belt away from Tyron Zeuge in brutal fashion earlier this year and looks set to pick from the WBA voluntary menu.
A contender from the Top 15 will feature in the opposite corner for Fielding, in what should be an Echo Arena homecoming before Christmas.
The likes of Vincent Feigenbutz, Avni Yildirim, Bilal Akkawy, Zach Parker, Jayde Mitchell, Nadjib Mohammedi, Mike Gravronski and Vladimir Shishkin could all be considered, whilst a rematch with John Ryder (Rated 3 with the WBA) should he come through (5th ranked) Andrey Sirotkin could be an outside chance due to a short turnaround.
Ryder fights Sirotkin on October 27, meaning ‘The Gorilla’ would have only a few weeks to prepare for Fielding on Merseyside.
It’s most likely to be one of the above this year, possibly Ryder in the spring before a huge fight in the summer.
James DeGale has already ruled himself out, whilst the winner of George Groves v Callum Smith needs more build-up.
“I had a one fight option with Sauerland, including the Zeuge rematch clause, but apparently that’s expired now as they never came back with anything,” Fielding told Sky Sports.
“I’ll be out in December, we’re just waiting to see who and where.
“DeGale’s name has been mentioned to me and I’d fight him in a heartbeat. I’d love that to get made for December.
“I heard that he’s looking to get it on with Chris Eubank Jr so I can sit back and then maybe I get the Smith-Groves (World Boxing Super Series Final) winner.”
Fielding was halted in less than a round by Smith in their previous meeting. ‘Rocky from Stocky’ says things would be different if they met again.
“I’m much more experienced and developed now than when I fought Smith. It was a shootout and I got caught with some good shots, that wouldn’t happen again.
“I’ve improved with [trainer] Jamie Moore and am coming into my prime, I’m more switched on and learned on the sport,” he added.
