DAZN schedule set ahead of blockbuster end to 2018

Matchroom and DAZN are set for a blockbuster end to 2018 ahead of the new boxing season for US fans.

Eddie Hearn confirmed his ground-breaking $1bn deal with the streaming giants. The promoter announced he will be delivering big fight nights across the Atlantic for the next eight years.

With at least eight world title events scheduled, including two unification showdowns as well as other shows to be confirmed, fans can expect to get great value for the $9.99 a month package with DAZN.

All the action begins with heavyweight king Anthony Joshua this weekend.

TV rights were also secured for the exciting World Boxing Super Series tournament as eight men in three weight divisions fight in out for the coveted Muhammad Ali Trophy.

Here’s the rundown of an exciting partnership between Hearn and DAZN, so far.

 

September 22

 

Joshua v Povetkin

In a battle of Olympians, Anthony Joshua defends his IBF, WBA Super, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles against Alexander Povetkin at London’s Wembley Stadium. Joshua recently unified the division after outpointing Joseph Parker to add the WBO strap to his mantel piece.

The UK’s biggest star returns to Wembley for the first time since his epic win over the legendary Wladimir Klitschko in front of 90,000.  Meanwhile Povetkin will be looking to add another Brit to his scalp having produced a sensational KO of Liverpool’s David Price in his last bout.

Olympic Games gold medallist Luke Campbell fights for the first time under trainer Shane McGuigan with the chance to avenge his 2015 defeat to Yvan Mendy.

Lawrence Okolie trades blows with Matty Askins for the British title.  Undefeated Sergey Kuzmin faces off against knockout artic David Price

 

September 28

WBA Super World Middleweight champion George Groves looks to defend his title against undefeated Callum Smith in the World Boxing Super Series final.

 

October 6

 

World’s Collide: Jessie Vargas v Thomas Dulorme

Former two-weight world champion Jessie Vargas was one of the first signings for DAZN and will mark his debut under the Matchroom USA banner against Thomas Dulmore in Chicago.

The ‘Worlds Collide’ event also features two world title bouts; Gavin McDonnell challenges America’s Daniel Roman for the WBA title before Callum Johnson goes toe-to-toe with IBF titlist Artur Beterbiev.

Heavyweight Jarrell Miller is also in action against Tomasz Adamek. Miller will be looking to make a statement to Joshua after things got heated between the pair during DAZN’s opening press conference.

 

October 7

 

World Boxing Super Series

From Yokohama Arena in Japan, the Muhammad Ali Trophy Quarter-Finals kick off with ‘Monster’ Naoya Inoue versus Juan Carlos Payano for WBA ‘Regular’ Bantamweight Championship. In the first last eight match-up from the 140 pound competition, Kiryl Relikh battles Eduard Troyanovsky for the WBA World Super-Lightweight Title.

 

October 13

 

Lewis Ritson v Francesco Patera

After winning the Lonsdale belt outright, Lewis Ritson returns to the North East with a chance to win the European Lightweight title against Francesco Patera.

The WBA international champion, Joshua Buatsi is back in action against David Allen. For the British and Commonwealth super-lightweight titles. Robbie Davies Jr. faces Glen Foot.

 

October 20:

Saunders v Andrade

WBO king Billy Joe Saunders is back on the road, this time in Boston, and makes a fourth defense against the former 154lbs champion Demetrius Andrade. The undercard is stacked with world title fights with Katie Taylor defending her IBF and WBA belts against Cindy Serrano and newly crowned IBF champion Tevin Farmer commencing battle with James Tennyson.

World Boxing Super Series

Also on the date, from the CFE Arena in Orlando, the WBSS continues with Emmanuel Rodriguez vs. Jason Moloney for the IBF Bantamweight Championship and Yunier Dorticos vs. Mateusz Masternak in a Cruiserweight Quarter-Final.

 

October 27

 

Ryder v Sirotkin

Britain’s John Ryder continues his revival at the Copper Box Arena against Andrey Sirotkin. The stakes are high as the victor will be in line to fight for the WBA regular title. Talented quartet Ted Cheeseman, Isaac Chamberlain, Jake Ball and Jordan Gill are scheduled on the undercard.

 

World Boxing Super Series

From the U.N.O. Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, Regis Prograis and Terry Flanagan collide for the WBC Super-Lightweight Diamond Title. Ivan Baranchyk battles Anthony Yigit for the IBF title.

 

November 3

 

World Boxing Super Series

At the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, Ryan Burnett vs. Nonito Donaire for the

WBA ‘Unified’ Bantamweight Championship & WBC Bantamweight Diamond Title co-features with home fighter Josh Taylor vs. Ryan Martin for the WBC Super-Lightweight Silver Title.

 

November 10

Usyk v Bellew

In one of the most exciting fights of the year, Tony Bellew puts it all on the line as he prepares to take on P4P and newly signed DAZN star Oleksandr Usyk at the Manchester Arena.

The latter’s profile has risen significantly since winning the WBSS season and unifying the cruiserweight division. In doing so, Usyk was the first boxer to hold the WBC, IBF, WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine world titles. Bellew returns to the 200lbs limit for the first time since defeating IIunga Makubu in his hometown at Goodison Park for the WBC World Cruiserweight Title.

Bellew will once again relish his role as the underdog and can rewrite history once again.
