David Price v Sean Turner scrapped, Eric Molina on the cards?

World Boxing News 13/09/2018

David Price may well have edged closer to a fight with former world title challenger Eric Molina following the cancellation of a clash with Sean Turner.

‘The Big Horrible Heavyweight’ was due to battle Turner on October 5 in Belfast until information was released to the contrary by MTK Global on Thursday.

“The towering Liverpudlian had been due to face Sean Turner. The fight as part of an impressive bill headlined by Tyrone McCullagh’s WBO European title clash with Josh Kennedy,” said an MTK statement.

“Former British and Commonwealth champion Price (22-5-KO18) was last in action at Wembley in March. In that fight, Price wobbled former world champion Alexander Povetkin before being stopped in a show-stealing thriller.

“Further news of Price’s next assignment will be announced shortly.”

MOLINA

The news comes just a short time after Molina’s promoter Don King put out their own news of a possible fight with Price.

Molina has previously shared the ring with the likes of Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. ‘The Drummer Boy’ is currently serving a suspension with the BBBofC but has appealed in order to seal a clash with Price.

“Heavyweight contender Eric Molina’s manager, Lee Holliday, is working with the British Board of Boxing Control. Holliday hopes to get Molina an early release from his suspension,” said Don King Productions.

“Molina was given a two-year suspension by the British Boxing Board for an illegal substance. The discovery was made in post-fight testing following his loss to Anthony Joshua in England on Dec. 10, 2016.

“I’m hopeful that the British Boxing Board will consider allowing Molina an early release on his suspension,” said Holliday. “It is coming up on two years since the Joshua fight. I know David Price is looking for an opponent in England.

“If we are fortunate to get the release, Molina would be happy to fight Price.

“The British Board of Boxing found a banned substance and Molina thought it was part of the B12 supplement he was taking.

“Molina is 26-5 with 19 KOs and Price is 22-5 with 18 KOs.”

More is set to be revealed in the coming days.
