Demetrius Andrade on Billy Joe Saunders: He’s ugly, but he can fight

Demetrius Andrade pointed to Billy Joe Saunders’ physical appearance when the pair went head-to-head in Boston recently to promote an October clash.

The fighter from Providence, Rhode Island, who is undefeated in 25 contests, challenges for the WBO World Middleweight title in a bid to become three-time world champion.

Recently signed to Matchroom and ready to perform on the DAZN platform, Andrade also outlined his respect for Saunders as a fellow unbeaten campaigner.

“It’s an honor to be fighting at the TD Garden. We’re giving you the best fight in boxing this year. You have to be there,” said the American.

“Billy Joe is a great fighter, an undefeated southpaw, he’s ugly looking, but he can fight.  But your boy Demetrius Andrade always come through. Never have I failed to come out with the victory.

“It’s going to be an entertaining build up and I’m thrilled to be working with Eddie Hearn. He’s bringing boxing at the highest level out here.

“There’s no sport like boxing, and we’re showcasing it in Boston.

“We’re going to be in shape to do 12 rounds, I know I have the bigger dog inside me than Billy Joe. I’m going to unleash that on him on October 20,” he added.

TWO-TIME

Andrade has previously enjoyed two spells as a ruler at the 154 pound division. The first reign came in 2013 and lasted for two years. The second in 2017 was also brief and bittersweet. On both occasions, ‘Boo Boo’ didn’t lose his strap in the ring.

Recognized as a highly talented and worthy of holding any title in the sport, Andrade will bring the most technical test yet to the table for Saunders.

Despite completely bamboozling David Lemieux in December, Saunders has missed out on capitalizing on his victory due to injury and victory over Andrade would be the perfect welcome to US audiences for the friend of Tyson Fury.
