WBN will be scoring live on site tonight as two massive fights take place on either side of the Atlantic from Birmingham, England and New York City.
First of all, Amir Khan takes center stage on World Boxing News tonight as the former super-lightweight king bids to push closer to a shot at Manny Pacquiao’s WBA welterweight title in Birmingham.
The Bolton man embarks on his second bout of a comeback following a brutal knockout loss at the hands of Canelo Alvarez in May 2016.
Following two years out of action, Khan blasted out Phil Lo Greco last time out in just under one minute and now tackles rugged Colombian Samuel Vargas.
Invoking memories of a certain meeting with Vargas’ compatriot Briedis Prescott, Khan knows he can ill-afford any slip ups as Pacquiao hangs in the balance.
An all-UK encounter with Kell Brook has also been mentioned for Khan, although the ‘Special One’ being able to make 147 pounds seems nigh on impossible.
Later, it’s over to the United States as Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter square-off for the vacant World Boxing Council Welterweight strap recently vacated by Keith Thurman.
Garcia and Porter, both of whom lost to Thurman, have the opportunity to pick up the coveted green belt and put themselves in the mix for a unification with Errol Spence Jr.
Spence, the IBF holder, is a member of the same stable under Al Haymon at Premier Boxing Champions and would make for a huge clash in the first few months of 2019.
Also featuring on the Garcia v Porter bill at Barclays Center is a heavyweight collision between Adam Kownacki and former world title holder Charles Martin, as the pair duke it out for a rankings boost with hopes of challenging Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder in the coming year.
Log on to the World Boxing News website from around 4pm ET / 9pm UK to follow all the action live.
