EXCLUSIVE: Brandon Cook doubts Kell Brook injury claims, explains why

Brook was due to be fighting Cook on the undercard of Dillian Whyte vs. Joseph Parker on Sky Sports Box Office this Saturday, but the super-welterweight contender was forced to withdraw with an ankle injury.

Cook is now off the card completely after the new opponent. Sam Eggington also pulled out due to injury.

The Canadian, speaking exclusively to World Boxing News, has suspicions on whether Brooks’ claims are true.

“I don’t know what’s going on with him (Brook). He rode his bike earlier this week, 80km. I think it’s all a lie, I think that’s a lie from him, but I can’t see Sam (Eggington) lying. I think that’s totally true,” said Cook during his trip to London.

“For Kell Brook, I think he’s just trying to cash out, waiting for a big fight. He saw him with sparring gear not too long ago. I got sent pictures by someone on Twitter. It was like ‘so much for the sore ankle.’

After speaking with promoter Eddie Hearn, Cook now has his sights set on a September return to the UK but has cast doubts over whether the Brook fight will ever materialize.

“I don’t think Brook wants to fight me, I don’t know what’s going on with him, but I think he wants to cash out as he doesn’t have a lot of time left. If I beat Sam, it might be a big fight for him, but I think Brook wants a world title shot.”

Cook, who has a professional record of 20-1 with 13 knockouts, is still hoping to attend the O2 on Saturday evening to witness the show.

“I’m hoping we can get some tickets to go, I did ask Eddie to hold us like twenty, but I think I only need like eight or nine now. Since I’m here, I’m just going to enjoy my time in London,” concluded Cook.
