Boxing vs MMA: Jean Pascal stops former UFC star in eight on cruiserweight debut

WBN 21/07/2018

Former world light-heavyweight champion and now campaigning cruiserweight Jean Pascal halted ex-UFC star Steve Bosse in eight rounds on Friday night.

The 35 year-old, who held the 175 pound crown from 2009 until a 2011 defeat to Bernard Hopkins, largely dominated Bosse, 36, until taking him out during the mid-sessions.

Bosse struggled to deal with Pascal’s movement, and apart from round two when the Quebec man had some successes, the boxer was in control until the fight was ended.

Whilst Pascal won’t gain too many props from defeating a one-contest Mixed Martial Artist, the win does represent a second on the spin for the one-time pound for pound star and could see another world title shot on the horizon at the higher 200 pound limit.

The cruiserweight straps could soon become vacant and Pascal will be hoping to be in the mix once the dust settles on the current World Boxing Super Series Season.

Further results at Place Bell saw super welterweight Marie Dicaire improve to 13-0 with a UD over Alejandra Ayala, whilst undefeated middleweight Jordan Balmir knocked out Vito Vendetta in two.

Whitney Baille decisioned Victor Lorenzo and Oszkar Fiko scored a majority win over Roody Paul – both at lightweight.

Rounding the night off, middleweight Jean Michel Bolivar halted Michael Cyr in three before cruiserweight Yan Pellerin carded a four round triumph over Fernando Galvan.
