Oscar De La Hoya was a ticking clock on social media as the 12pm PT deadline drew nearer without word from the Kazakh puncher.
In the end, all was good as De La Hoya soon announced an agreement was struck and the fight will happen on September 15 in Las Vegas.

One year on from the first meeting, the top two middleweights in the world will again trade blows at the T-Mobile Area.
‘GGG’ secured the fight he wanted on a better deal than the original after standing firm on a 50-50 split. Having relaxed his position over the weekend, De La Hoya and GBP’s Eric Gomez offered to meet Golovkin halfway on his fresh demand.
Instead of the initial 35%, Golden Boy went north 7.5% which was enough to persuade Golovkin to confirm the contest prior to the Wednesday stipulation.
Canelo had lined up Irishman Gary O’Sullivan and Danny Jacobs as possible Golovkin replacements for what will be the Mexican’s comeback from a six-month suspension.
Alvarez recently returned to the World Boxing Council ratings for June as the two-weight world champion continues to serve out a ban handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Losing out on a lucrative rematch with Golovkin on May 5 following two positive tests for Clenbuterol, Canelo has agreed to VADA regulations for the new date.
Canelo has been given the full backing of the WBC and was reinstated to the ratings list as promised by President Mauricio Sulaiman, with the fight to take place just over a month after the NSAC punishment expires.
For Golovkin, the further collaboration with Golden Boy, De La Hoya and Canelo puts an end to potential negotiations with Billy Joe Saunders for a unification battle in England.
Saunders had pulled out of a scheduled bout with Martin Murray through injury and had not planned a new date with his British rival.
That fight may well be reignited for later in the year due to animosity between the pair in the aftermath of the encounter falling apart.
With Golovkin v Canelo 2 on and O’Sullivan or Jacobos more likely for the winner, Saunders faces being on the outside looking in until at least 2019.
