Golovkin v Saunders chances diminish as Canelo talks re-open

There’s only one man on Golovkin’s mind right now and that’s Mexican Canelo Alvarez.

Before the official opening odds are released, it vital to know which of these top list of sportsbooks will give you the best value for your money when it comes to boxing, Golovkin would be a massive favorite to defeat Saunders anyway, adding to the risk of the Briton loses his own status as champion.

“Billy Joe Saunders has long been seeking a big-money fight, and he may finally be close to getting one,” a sportsbook spokesperson told WBN.

“The WBO middleweight champ is inching closer to a unification bout with WBA, WBC & IBO title-holder Gennady Golovkin, but he may regret campaigning so hard for it.

“Golovkin will be a heavy favorite (around 1/3, or -300) if the fight takes place in 2018.

“While Saunders is younger and quicker, GGG holds a massive power advantage, and showed he can deal with quicker fighters when he faced Canelo Alvarez, a match that was unfairly scored a draw.

“If this is announced soon, knowing which will be the first to post boxing odds from this top list of sportsbooks is essential if you want to obtain those opening odds.”

Despite Saunders pulling out of a fight with Martin Murray with injury to seemingly leave the door ajar for a unification with Golovkin, a clash with the Kazakh puncher remains unlikely to take place this year.

Golovkin was recently stripped of his IBF belt, devaluing a contest with Saunders as ‘GGG’ is no longer able to secure the final strap to add to his considerable collection of middleweight belts.

Soon enough, Sergey Derevyanchenko will face-off with the next available contender for the vacant IBF title, adding another 160 pound champion to the mix and leaving Golovkin with a further mountain to climb regarding becoming undisputed.

Saunders would potentially be better off aiming for Derevyanchenko should he finally become a world ruler and unifying himself before attempting to secure a bigger slice of the pie with Golovkin or Canelo.

For Golovkin, reaching a compromise with Canelo and eventually putting the saga behind him in September could then leave the 35 year-old with no other place to go than north to super-middlewieght.
