The current pound for pound king suffered the injury against Jorge Linares when taking the Venezuelan’s lightweight title to become a three-weight ruler and underwent successful surgery on Wednesday.
Despite going under the knife, Lomachenko is confident he’ll fight again before the end of the year, possibly in November or December to build on his good form.
“I undergo surgery for a torn Labrum in my right shoulder suffered during the second round of my fight against Jorge Linares,” explained Lomachenko.
“I was aware something was not right with my shoulder straight away, but I could not disappoint my fans with excuses.
“Thank you for the overwhelming kind words I’ve already received. I’ll be back in the ring THIS year,” he added.
Upon completion of the operation, Lomachenko assured fans the procedure was a success despite keeping him out for the next few months.
“We are back to life, just waking up after successful surgery,” said a post on his social media.
Unifications with either Mikey Garcia or Ray Beltran, planned for the later summer, will now have to be put on the backburner for the time being.
Lomachenko may also need an interim fight to shake off the ring rust by the time he re-enters the squared circle, meaning that huge clash with Garcia may not happen for the foreseeable future.
Garcia was said to be remaining at 135 specifically for the Lomachenko fight and may now reassess his movements as a current title holder at both lightweight and super-lightweight.
