Lennox Lewis urges AJ to ‘get out into this world’ as heavyweight champ

Courtside for the Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets match in California. The current unified heavyweight champion seemed to be loving the exposure of his privileged seat.

That was until basketball legend and commentator Reggie Miller stated he was looking forward to a huge heavyweight match-up between Deontay Wilder and ‘Anthony Johnson.’

The video quickly went viral, with former two-time world super-welterweight Cornelius ‘K9’ Bundrage sharing the clip and seeing many comments follow.

Following a WBN retweet, one of those was from none-other-than the last undisputed top division champ – Lennox Lewis, who then urged Joshua to fight in America to avoid such mistakes.

“This is why you need to get out into the world as heavyweight world champ,” said Lewis.

In a recent interview with Telegraph Sport, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn outlined why his star man doesn’t want to fight in America.

“AJ will have to take a pay cut to fight in the UK, and I don’t think he’s that bothered,” Hearn said to Gareth A. Davies.

“The offer that they made, if that were open to a UK fight, we would have signed immediately. But obviously, they want to pay the money to get AJ to Wilder’s backyard.

“At the moment, we’re all still talking, and communication continues. But there is a feeling from our camp this undisputed fight should be in the UK.

“Rob, who is trainer, manager, and an ex-fighter, knows the advantage of being at home.

“AJ genuinely loves fighting in the UK. He knows there has never been an undisputed fight before. He was the first unification fight in Britain in the heavyweight division.

“So to do an undisputed heavyweight unification fight in the UK would be historic. But whether Wilder’s team feels the same, like I said, those talks are ongoing.

“But that’s the general feeling from AJ and Rob,” he added.

Who knows whether the fight will happen this year as speculation from UK media sources continues that Joshua’s trip is to announce the fight potentially.

WBN believes this is far from the case and that Joshua is not contemplating fighting against Wilder until at least 2019.

As previously revealed by WBN, the most likely scenario is a fight between Joshua and mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in the UK this September.
