Darren Tetley became the new WBO European welterweight title as he stopped Mason Cartwright in the ninth-round.

It was a barnstormer of a contest and it was Bradford’s Tetley who was under pressure during the early rounds with the Ellesmere Port boxer on the front-foot.

However, it was the Yorkshireman who prevailed, flooring Cartwright in the eighth-round with a glancing left-hook to the jaw.

Despite picking himself up from the canvas, referee Phil Edwards intervened and called for the doctor’s opinion as blood poured from the nose and mouth of Cartwright. The 25-year-old was unfit to continue stating a mouth laceration as the reasoning.

Hackney’s Ohara Davies defeated Ahmed Ibrahim making his first outing under the Frank Warren stable.

The 26-year-old gained some much-needed rounds, winning 60-54 on the scorecards in his first outing of 2018.

Now 17-1, next up for Davies is a match-up against Josh Leather in the summer.

Exciting prospect Mark Heffron made an impressive statement of intent winning via a fourth-round stoppage to overcome Adam Grabiec.

Middleweight Danny Wright was also victorious, producing a points victory over Romford’s Mikey Sakyi.

Earlier, Lyon Woodstock produced a classy performance to record a points win over Edwin Tellez. The super-featherweight, from Leicester, dominated the Spaniard winning the eight-round contest 80-72.

Fred Evans opened the undercard at Elland Road, outpointing Daryll Sharp to extend his record to 5-0.

There were also point victories for Reece Mould, Leeds local Jack Bateson, who won every round to record a 40-36 point victory.

Also on the bill, Jack Daniel wasted no time flattening Latvia’s Zigurds Krauklis in the first round.
