The World Boxing Council have released their latest quarterly report which outlines the status of each of the seventeen weight divisions.
In this edition, the focus is on the cruiserweights.
The report outlines what has transpired over the last few months and what has been ordered in the near future.
Here’s the current status at 200 pounds.
What was ordered:
Champion Mairis Briedis is in the World Boxing Super Series, so his mandatory status depends on who emerges as the winner and will be addressed at a later date.
·Oleksandr Usyk defeated Mairis Briedis by D12 and won the cruiserweight title on January 27 in Riga.
·Maxim Vlasov defeated Olanrewaju Durodola by KOT10 and won the vacant silver title on February 3 in Sochi.
·Olexandr Usyk vs. Murat Gassiev – Saudi Arabia * fight has been postponed due to injury.
·Maxim Vlasov vs. Ilunga Makabu in May for the Silver.
WBN Note: Usyk v Gassiev winner should be ordered to face their mandatory challenger by the end of 2018. All depends on the result of Vlasov v Makabu and Briedis, who is the current number one contender.
Due to the close nature of the Usyk v Briedis fight, the Latvian former champion is likely to be ordered to fight Vlasov or Makabu in a final elimination.
More to come from the WBC reports.
