Eddie Hearn spoke to WBN at a Newcastle press conference on Tuesday about the possibility of ‘White Rhino’ Dave Allen fighting in Newcastle on June 16th.
The affable fan-favourite Allen, last fought in a bitterly disappointing technical draw with Lenroy Thomas in a rematch of his failed Commonwealth belt challenge against the same man due to a cut as a result of a clash of heads in the first round.
Allen did want to fight him again, but now Thomas is scheduled to fight against Joe Joyce on the undercard of the Bellew Haye II.
This has left Allen searching for new challenges and a fight with up and coming heavyweight Daniel Dubois has been touted but has not yet come to fruition.
The Yorkshireman wants to appear on Matchroom’s Newcastle show at the Metro Radio Arena and Hearn hasn’t ruled out the possibility.
“Yeah he may be on the card, but the issue that we have is that we already have five title fights,” Hearn exclusively explained to World Boxing News.
“We go on air at seven and we have Ritson v Hyland Jr., Kelly v George, Vallily v Iqbal and McDonnell v Hall.
“We only have the space between five and seven, so we want to give young North East fighters a chance.
“Steve Wraith has a few guys and so does Phil Jeffries and Lewis Pendleton has some fighters.
“About twenty people want to be on the card and at the moment there is only space for another three or four.”
Despite this Hearn does seem to have a soft spot for Allen and is going to try his best to get him on the show.
“With that said we are going to try and get Dave Allen on the bill and we will speak to him in the next few weeks,” concluded the Matchroom boss.
The card is one of the biggest to be staged in Newcastle for some time and sees Lewis Ritson and Josh Kelly is hometown championship clashes live on Sky Sports.
