The 36-year-old, who retired from the sport in 2010, has been the subject of police investigations linked to the Islamic State.

Small pled not guilty at the Old Bailey but was remanded in custody to appear again on May 29 of this year.

Videos posted by Small brought about the charge after the MET Police’s Counter-Terrorism Team picked them up.

Now known as Abdul Haqq, Small was previously acquitted in 2015 to join the fighting in Syria and later starred in a BBC reality show called, ‘Muslims like US’.

Just last year, Small was also in trouble with the law for sub-letting his flat whilst claiming benefits.

A custodial sentence is expected if Small is found guilty.
