Joshua offers Wilder far less than Parker, can expect counter offer

The 27 year-old outlined plans to send Wilder a two-fight deal, but with $12.5m on the table for a fight that could make $100m, Joshua is certainly looking at being counter-offered this week.

Monetary terms were leaked hours after the deal was laid down, although Wilder is not expected to accept unless improvements are made.

“Sources told me today that Eddie Hearn offered Wilder’s side a $12.5M take-it-or-leave-it offer for an Anthony Joshua fight.

“For a fight with potential revenues of $80-$100M in revenues, that offer is far below 20% of potential revenues,” said US journalist Adam Abramowitz on social media.

In contrast to the Wilder package, Joshua agreed a 35% split with Joseph Parker last time out, a fight with four belts on the line compared to five against ‘The Bronze Bomber’.

Wilder will know Joshua is only playing hardball but is seriously considering taking a smaller cut than Parker, with the stipulation that the terms are reversed in the second fight – which makes full sense.

At the end of the day, Joshua does have the power in the division so anyone who is a danger to that lofty position can expect to adhere to the Briton’s stricter terms – and rightly so.

Just getting his foot in the door would be enough for Wilder, who could then hold all the aces should he be able to pull off a shock knockout win at Wembley Stadium, possibly in July.

Staging the first bout on UK soil with Joshua’s massive PPV status can generate huge sums, which Wilder can push towards in his own territory should he take all the belts home.

A victory for Wilder would instantly catapult him to the Pay-Per-View platform on Showtime, with the likes of Joshua and Tyson Fury lucrative contests in the stateside market.

One stumbling block could be the pursuit of Alexander Povetkin and his promoter Andriy Ryabinskiy, both of whom want the mandatory WBA title against Joshua shot pushed through.

Joshua was given 30 days to negotiate a deal recently and has until September to get the fight done and dusted but wants to delay the Russian until 2019.
