David Price described his sickening knockout at the hands of Alexander Povetkin as a ‘rough night’ when speaking to Alan Brazil on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show this week.
The 34 year-old rocked the former world champion right at the end of the third round and was unable to capitalize before the Russian eventually wore Price down over the next round.
In the fifth, a crushing blow stunned Price, and as the Liverpool man was out of his feet, Povetkin unleashed a massive left hook to end the contest in a brutal manner.
Price needed some help in getting to his feet and has now revealed he had over 40 stitches in a wound to his mouth and eye following the Joshua v Parker undercard shoot-out.
“After the fight, I got checked over in the medical room at the stadium, and they said it would be better to just go to hospital. I agreed, to be safe, and they gave me the all-clear, Price told talkSPORT.
“I had a fractured nose, had 30 stitches in my mouth and about 12 stitches on my eyes. It was a rough night!
“I’m proud of my performance. I gave everything I had to give and I came close, closer than the knock-out made it look.”
Price has since been linked to retirement from the sport on the back of a career of claiming accolades and falling short at the highest level, whilst a stint behind the microphone is almost certain to follow for the ‘Big, Horrible Heavyweight.’
