Anthony Joshua’s next opponent: Shift in odds as contenders shorten

The money has come for Deontay Wilder to be Anthony Joshua’s next opponent, with Betway cutting the WBC belt holder from 5/1 to 2/1 this morning.

A leading online bookmaker is reporting increased support for the Bronze Bomber from his comments about fighting in the UK. He is now the joint favorite to face Joshua next.

New York puncher Jarrell Miller remains 2/1 to get to AJ first. While Alexander Povetkin and, maybe most surprisingly, the movers, David Haye, have both been backed.

Povetkin is now just 5/2, having been as big as 10/1 immediately after his crushing KO win over David Price. The Hayemaker is into 14/1 from 33/1.

Dillian Whyte is the big drifter, out to 10/1. He had been priced up after Joshua’s victory over Joseph Parker at 2/1.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “The dust has settled on Saturday’s fight. Punters are throwing confidence behind Anthony Joshua agreeing to make Deontay Wilder his next opponent.

“The big shift came after Wilder’s comments that he’d be open to fighting in the UK. While we’ve also seen good support for Alexander Povetkin and David Haye.”

Anthony Joshua’s next opponent:

Deontay Wilder, Jarrell Miller 2/1 / Alexander Povetkin 5/2 / Dillian Whyte 10/1 / David Haye 14/1 / Kubrat Pulev 14/1 Tyson Fury 14/1 / Luis Ortiz 25/1 / Joseph Parker 33/1
