Undercard fighter Kody Davies has predicted his new promoter David Haye will come out on top in his rematch with Tony Bellew.
Davies has just signed with Haye’s Hayemaker-Ringstar promotion company which is home to Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce as well as management company S-Jam Boxing.
The former Team GB star’s new link-up has given him the opportunity to box on the Bellew v Haye II show.
Bellew upset the odds in a major way when he stopped Haye last year after the former heavyweight champion suffered an injury early on in the fight.
The two will face off again on May 5th this year after the original rematch was postponed due to Haye suffering another injury – this time to his bicep.
When asked on how he thinks the rematch will go, Davies exclusively told World Boxing News:
“Providing David’s body holds up, he will win – he’s strong, explosive and sharp, I just think he is the better all-rounder.”
Davies also gave his thoughts on the method of victory for the Londoner. “That’s what he’s going to be looking for yeah, what better way to win than an emphatic knockout?”
The show will be the first time the former amateur standout will have the opportunity to showcase his skills on a high-profile platform.
The Welshman is 2-0 so far and has a fight coming up in his native Wales on April 7th before his big night at the O2 in London.
Davies will be looking to use the platform to announce himself on the British fighting scene and is all too aware of what a big performance could do for his profile.
“In the next 12 to 18 months I don’t necessarily want to achieve anything I just want to keep active and show what I’m all about and what I bring to the table.
“Being Welsh, southpaw, skillful and between super middleweight and light heavyweight. My short-term goal is to be recognised amongst the top boys (prospects) in the division,” Davies concluded.
