WBC News: Centeno v Charlo / Broner v Vargas / Yaegashi wins

Hugo Centeno Jr. and Jermall Charlo fight for the World Boxing Council interim middleweight belt, on April 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The event will be broadcast live by SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, and it’s presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

In his debut in the middleweight division, Charlo knocked out Jorge Sebastian Heiland, in a WBC elimination bout in his quest to challenge Absolute champion Gennady Golovkin. But with Golovkin heading for a rematch with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Charlo and Hugo Centeno Jr. will contest the interim WBC title.

Former world champion in four divisions Adrien Broner will face former welterweight world champion, Jessie Vargas, on April 21, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Former champion Omar Figueroa suffered a shoulder injury during his preparation and was replaced by Vargas.

The event is being done by Mayweather Promotions, DiBella Entertainment and TGB Promotions, and tickets are on sale through ticketmaster.com or barclayscenter.com

On the same card, Hugo Centeno Jr. and Jermall Charlo will contest the Interim middleweight title of the World Boxing Council.

Former world champion Akira Yaegashi (26-6, 14 KOs), returned to the ring in style by defeating Indonesian flyweight Frans Damur Palue (20-19-2, 12 KOs), knocking him out in the second round, in Tokyo, Japan.

Yaegashi returns to the ring after he suffered a shocking defeat in the first round by Milan Melindo last May.

For his part, former Olympic bronze medalist 2012, left-handed Satoshi Shimizu (6-0, 6 KOs), successfully defended his featherweight OPBF belt, defeating Korean Korean Kyung-Min Kwon (6-4, 3 KOs) ), by knockout in the eighth round.
