On April 21, 2018 Fast rising New Jersey based promotional company and a staple in the Atlantic City boxing scene, Rising Star Promotions, will be heading up the parkway bringing live boxing to Paramus, NJ featuring a card full of local fighters including Wyckoff, New Jersey native Darren Goodall (5-0, 3KOs) in the main event.
The card will also feature Anthony “Juice” Young (18-2, 6KO) of Pleasantville, NJ taking on Enver Halili (10-1 3ko) of Bronx, NY in the Co Feature and Rising Star’s VP, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna, who is rated #13 in the WBO welterweight standings, will be getting back in the ring just weeks after fighting to a controversial draw with Brooklyn base veteran Gabriel Bracero.
It is a quick turn around for Rising Star as well, as LaManna has been their go-to main event fighter for some time but LaManna sees value in sitting back and giving the spotlight to up and coming fighters from the Garden State as well as take some pressure off of himself in terms of managing the roles of promoter and fighter on fight night.
“I want to give people the opportunities I was given…this fight is in Darren’s backyard, lets give him the shine. I’m excited to fight in Bergen County where all my family is from. I want to thank the City of Paramus and Scott Vandersnow, Owner of The Arena for allowing me to continue my journey in fighting and promoting”. LaManna said of the opportunities that moving their usual venue a bit north might provide.
The location seems to be ideal for the fighters scheduled who include Robert Terry (1-0) from Jersey City and Leon Johnson (2-0) from Paterson to name a few. LaManna, speaking as the promoter rather than the fighter, says that he hopes that he can provide the opportunities for these local fighters to grow into bigger fights and is looking to show that it is possible “Even if I grow out of fighting on this type of card, I want to keep doing these shows for the fighters like the ones on this card”.
