‘Promoters have responsibility to make Joshua v Wilder for the fans’, says WBC President

Surviving a ferocious onslaught in the seventh round, Wilder overcame his scare to stop the hard hitting Cuban three rounds later, successfully defending his crown for the seventh time, and his courage under fire, has been praised by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.

Coming back from that hammering would have made Sugar Ray Robinson, or even perhaps…. Mrs Robinson proud! It’s being praised by WBC Chief Mauricio Sulaiman who said: “It was absolutely the graduation of Deontay Wilder as a champion.

“He has proven why he’s the best heavyweight in the World right now. I’m just proud, because he overcame adversity, and he had to dig down in his heart and his mind to be successful.

“It was a very, very important challenge and Deontay emerged from it as a Great Champion.”

Now fans are awaiting the mammoth showdown between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. But this can only happen if Joshua defeats Joseph Parker.

Mauricio Sulaiman said: “All the fans want to see the fight between Wilder and Joshua.

“It’s up to the promoters. It’s their responsibility to give this to the World, and I’m hoping that they do not interfere with the wishes of the fans.

“Hopefully that fight will be this year in The Fall.”
