Lerena, Cameron successfully defend IBO belts, Foot stops Easton for Commonwealth strap

South African puncher Kevin Lerena kept a firm grip on his IBO cruiserweight title with a unanimous points win over Dmytro Kucher in Gauteng.

‘The KO Kid’, who defeated Youri Kalenga to claim the strap, saw out the victory on points for a 25th career win.

On the undercard at Emperors Palace, welterweight Thulani Mbenge and minimumweight DeeJay Kriel won their respective bouts for fringe versions of the WBC crown.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Josh Taylor halted Winston Campos in three rounds in what ended up being a disappointing win.

Taylor was due to fight a seasoned ex-world champion in Humberto Soto, although the Mexican pulled out injured and left promoter Barry McGuigan stranded.

Campos was drafted in but was no real challenge for the talented Taylor, who took him out with relative ease to push to 12-0.

Also on the bill, ex-Prizefighter winner Glenn Foot halted Jason Easton in the eleventh round to claim the vacant Commonwealth super-lightweight championship.

Easton was down briefly in the second but eventually taken out late on as Foot picked up the first major title of his career at the second time of asking.

Also on the SSE Hydro bill, Women’s IBO lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron remains so due to a unanimous decision win over Myriam Dellal, whilst super-bantamweight prospect Lee McGregor stopped late replacement Pablo Narvaez in two.
