Joshua v Parker – Betting guide
As usual for an Anthony Joshua fight, the current and reigning heavyweight king is a massive odds-on favourite to retain his clutch of world title belts.
‘AJ’ puts his status at the division’s number one fighter on the line against WBO title holder Joseph Parker in a bid to move one step closer to fully unifying the 200 pounds plus weight class.
So, what is the best value bet?
Looking at the Joshua v Parker betting, it doesn’t look like a straight out win is going to create any millionaires on the fight. But at 13/2 with some bookies, the challenger could be worth the odd punt after Joshua looked vulnerable in one and sluggish in the other over his last contrasting two outings.
A marvellous come-from-behind win over Wladimir Klitschko was followed up by a late stoppage victory over replacement Carlos Takam, and some fancy Parker could come over and do a job on the 2012 Olympic gold medallist.
Not so, according to the number crunchers, who see a Joshua knockout as the likeliest scenario at 1/5 on. A decision win for the home fighter is 9/2, whilst the fight just to go the distance, either way, is a 7/2 shot.
Should you – like most fancy a Joshua stoppage, the smart money would lie in the group round betting as Joshua can be had at a minimum of even money to finish the fight in the first six sessions.
A stunning Parker win in the same timeframe pushes the fractions to a whopping 22/1 for what would be seen as a shock in the territory of James ‘Buster’ Douglas taking out Mike Tyson in Tokyo.
Whatever you choose, stick to your guns and make sure you put your money down as there’s nothing like making a prediction and failing to capitalize on your gut feeling.
For my money, taking a request-a-bet on Joshua to be dropped before coming to back to win via knockout could be worth looking at, whilst a late Parker smash and grab is potentially worth a fiver.
