Englishmen George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr. completed the weigh-in ceremony this Friday by hitting the scales at 167.1 and 167.5 pounds respectively. Now, they’re both ready to fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight Super Championship this Saturday, February 17th in Manchester, England.
Groves, the current WBA champion at 168 pounds, won the black and gold belt after defeating Russian Fedor Chudinov on May 27th, 2017. His first defense was against his countryman Jamie Cox, both victories via knockout. Now he is preparing to expose his title for the third time, but this time he will do so in the framework of the World Boxing Super Series.
For his part, Eubank Jr, challenger to the WBA world crown, was Middleweight Interim Champion of the body in 2015. He then decided to go up a division and in 2017 he had important fights, such as the one against Arthur Abraham, whom he defeated by unanimous decision.
Thus, the only stop left is to step in the ring this Saturday to find out who is the best.
