Groves v Eubank Jr: Betting update

Groves v Eubank Jr. 16/02/2018

Betway punters are siding with a Chris Eubank Jr late show ahead of Saturday night’s showdown with George Groves.

The Brighton man is being backed to advance to the final, with odds at SuperBettingSites.com siding with Eubank Jr.

Eubank Jr is 18/1 to win the fight in the seventh and the same price for an eighth round KO, whereas Groves looks less likely to deliver a late stoppage at bigger odds of 22/1 for either of those rounds and as big as 33/1 and 40/1 to strike in 11 or 12.

Groves is 14/1 to finish it in any of the last three rounds, whereas Eubank has been very well backed at just 17/2 in the same market.

At 4/6, the Brighton-born puncher is a marginal favourite to win Saturday’s World Boxing Super Series bout and is 6/5 to win the tournament outright, while Groves is 11/8 to beat Eubank and 9/4 to take the Super Series title.

Betway’s Alan Alger, said: “Saturday night’s fight looks to be very evenly poised and we’ve struggled to split the two in the betting. Eubank is a marginal 4/6 favourite but we know Groves has what it takes to deliver on the big occasion and can be backed at 11/8.

“We’ve seen a good chunk of money placed on Eubank scoring a late victory, with rounds 8-12 all drawing plenty of interest. A 10th round Eubank KO at 22/1 looks about the worst result in the book for us as things stand, while our market on Eubank to win in rounds 10-12 at 17/2 has also been very popular.”

BetStars Director of Trading Ian Marmion said: “This Saturday sees the much anticipated clash between Chris Eubank Jr (26-1) and George Groves (27-3) in the semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series at the Manchester Arena.

“Eubank Jr last tasted defeat over three years ago at the hands of Billy Joe Saunders, and is undefeated in his eight fights since. This bout, however, will be by far the sternest test the IBO super-middleweight champion has faced to date, and in Groves he meets a similarly gifted fighter who has fought the best around on the highest stage and no doubt comes armed with the experience edge on Eubank Jr.

“The son of Chris Eubank Sr has been a clear favourite for the fight since it was chalked up a couple of months ago but we think this fight might come just a year too soon for the 28-year-old against an opponent in his prime, and we’re backing underdog Groves to come out on top at 5/4.

“We can see the fight going deep into the rounds, which is a scenario that will suit Groves who has a track record of going the distance and the 29-year-old will be aware that this will be his greatest chance of success. Groves to win by decision or technical decision can be backed at 9/2 with BetStars.”
