Kell Brook is under no illusions about the task in front of him next month as Sergey Rabchenko comes to his hometown for a massive clash.

‘The Special One’ is bidding to put a nightmare spell behind him with a victory in Sheffield on March 3rd, which would go some way to erasing the memory of his crushing losses to Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr.

At 31, Brook seemingly would have plenty of time on his hands to reverse his career fortunes, but by his own admission, the former world champion has fought too many wars of late and may only have one year left to make his mark.

That’s why eyebrows were raised slightly with the choice of tough Belarussian Rabchenko, although Brook says he needs rounds and didn’t think a walkover would do him any good.

“I’m going to make sure I’m in the best physical shape and mentally right. I’m 100% sure I’ll beat him,” Brook told Betsafe.com

“He’s bring to the table he’s very clever, had a lot of amateur fights. He’s good to the head and to the body, uses the ring well.

“He’s very tough because I’ve sparred with him and he’s more than a handful. Our styles will gel and the winners are going to be the fans and me.

“He’s an all-round good fighter, he’s going to be a tough fighter and it’s going to be a challenge to break him down. I’ll be happy with the rounds and getting a very good workout.

“I don’t want to go out and knock someone out, it’s going to be a very tough night’s work. Like the rest of the cards, which are 50/50 fights and will be great for the fans.”

Asked about his current top heavyweight in a division bustling with talent, Brook picked out Matchroom star and stablemate Anthony Joshua as the main man at 200 pounds plus.

“I think AJ is behind the renaissance in boxing, he’s a top athlete, not only in boxing but in sport as a whole,” said Brook.

“He’s a role model for everyone in sport, he could fight anywhere and fill the stadium. It’s set a president and Eddie’s involved in these big stadium fights so it’s better for us as boxers.

“AJ is leading the way and we’re right behind him,” he added.
